How much physical activity is recommended for adults? (WHO,2022)
- 2.5 hrs-5 hrs weekly of moderate-intensity aerobic physical activity
- 2.5 hrs of vigorous-intensity aerobic physical activity

How many steps are recommended for adults to aim for each day?
- 7,000 steps per day on average (Graph) or 42,000 per week total OR
- More if you can for additional health benefits (Locke et al, 2011)
How much of a benefit can we get from being more physically active?
Globally, only 23% of adults meet the recommendations on activity for health
In general, the more hours of weekly exercise, see graph ☝️, the lower the risk of death and disease is seen as shown ☝️.
- For context, 1000 steps take roughly 10 minutes (Medibank, 2022)
- Based on the current guidelines, a typical adult is recommended to do 4-10.5 hours more exercise each week, depending on age, health status, and medical conditions.
Ask yourself this:
-How many weekly hours of exercise do you currently do?
-How many steps do you average per day or total per week?
-Is it realistic for you to exercise more?
